Social media strategies have come out on top in a survey undertaken to determine which marketing tactics will be most used by businesses this year. Conducted by the Online Marketing Blog, the poll of 532 readers revealed that 34 per cent intend to focus on blogging this year, with 29 per cent opting for Twitter and 28 per cent for search engine optimisation. Other popular strategies included social networking, email marketing, social media monitoring and outreach, and pay-per-click advertising. Lee Odden of the Online Marketing Blog emphasised the fact that the perfect digital marketing strategy very much depends on the type of organisation and the target market, among other factors. "Some companies are prepared for digital and social media marketing programs and many are not. To get 'ready', companies need to develop strategic plans and get up to speed on both best and worst practices," he added. Businesses looking to focus on blogs may have their work cut out for them in terms of gaining consumers' attention, if the findings of a Forrester Research poll conducted last year are anything to go by. According to the survey, corporate blogs are the least trusted sources of information among US consumers, with emails from friends being the most trusted. Start Your China E-business Now!
